Eligibility

Who is Eligible for HS EHS Visual

Head Start and Early Head Start families must:

  • Live in Lenawee County
  • 90% of families served must have income below the poverty guidelines
  • For Head Start, children must be at least 3 years old by September 1st
  • For Early Head Start, must be a pregnant woman or have children aged birth to 3 years old

Other Eligibility Considerations:

  • Children from homeless families and families receiving public assistance such as TANF or SSI are           also eligible
  • Foster children are eligible regardless of their foster family’s income


Application

Call 517.263.1118 to complete initial information:

  • Within two weeks a Family Advocates/Home Visitor will call to set up an appointment to complete the program application
  • Bring to the application appointment – total family proof of income, child’s birth certificate or other record of birth, and immunization record.
  • If available also bring: Medicaid or health insurance card, dental & physical card, dental & physical information, WIC book, and/or TANF (FIP, CDC) or SSI
  • Children who are not placed immediately after application remain on the programs waitlist and may be placed when an opening occurs


Enrollment

  • Not all children that apply are enrolled in the program
  • Children are eligible for the waiting list or for placement in a classroom (or home visitor) when necessary requirements are met
  • Children are placed in a classroom (or assigned to a home visitor) based on the program’s priority factor system
  • Child eligibility, parent’s choice, available space and transportation are also taken into consideration

Once a child is enrolled:

  • A Teachers or Home Visitor will make a home visit before the child may attend the program
